Eat & Shop

There has been much talk about me jetsetting around the region in the past year. I have actually lost count of the number of times I am on board a flight since last June. All that I know right now is that I am penning this entry onboard a flight back into Singapore.

The journey was short but I managed to achieve what I had set out this trip to be.

  1. To spend some quality time with an old friend, Phil
  2. Visit Macau due to the recent accounts that I have been placed under
  3.  Not to shop at ALL (FAILED)
  4. Research on new malls in Hongkong.

I have known Phil for the past7-8 years and we have bonded and grew together in different cities. He has always been an inspiration to me as I saw him started small and now traveling all over the world with his job. From a Malaysian, he worked towards being a Singaporean and now happily residing in Hong kong with a PR status on his way.

He guided me and gave me pointers on career decisions and being “to the point”. For this trip, his main objective was to convince me that working in HK is the best option for now. He strongly thinks that I am ready to take on the city with my cosmopolitan outlook and international appeal. (Basically, he knows that I lurveeee the lifestyle & shopping)

Hong Kong has never looked so good to me. Being the third time and the shortest duration that I have spent here, I have found that despite the busy lifestyle of the individuals, the quality of life for a young executive like me is very delicious. The nightlife here is vibrant and the F&B situation is immense. Time to sit down and reevaluate my current situation in Singapore. Honestly, my friends in SG are now involved in their personal life and it is even harder than before to just sit down and enjoy time together. I won’t say that I feel left out, cause I know that they try to engage me in whatever little time they have off from work and social responsibilities. But probably this is making me lonelier without work taking center stage. On this topic, Ms Chan is also making me worried, with him far from us. He is meant to stay put in SG and no out wondering in some alien city with awful people. Just stay in SG and bitch with us over drinks. Much better isn’t it?

Now that I am on the way back, I am starting to be in a panic again with the amount of work that I could be facing soon. Especially with my reservist on the way, I can sense trouble brewing. Time to set out the strategy during my absence, before anyone gets “hurt”

bye for now as I get on with my music.

XOXO

Shanghai - The cosmopolitan city of the Orient

Shanghai is a city where East and West concoct a blend of cosmopolitan living. The tune that resonates in my mind would be from the theme song of the famous drama serial starring Chow Yun Fatt. The mystery has always been to me what is all so great about this city? Shanghai is known to the Chinese as the future of China. Beijing for that matter is the current and Xian claims to be the past.

This short business trip was slotted in during the busiest period of my social life. With the opening play of the Peranakan museum, I was clamoring for more time. Left on Sunday afternoon straight after the first performance of the play and arrived late at night in Shanghai. Just minutes after I arrived, I was to discuss the procedure of the Brand Workshop with Saxone.

During my extended stay in Shanghai, I was very much indulging in the sights of the city. Not so much of the sounds as I was deafened by the rude conversations from the Chinese. But I must agree that Shanghai has the hardware of any international city in the world. Skyscrapers all over and lights to fill the streets past midnight.

The highlight of the trip was a guest appearance by Alvin. Was touched as he made an effort to change his schedule just to meet me in Shanghai. We only got to spend a late afternoon and evening together but that was good enough. We trawled the streets for shopping and had horrible Japanese food somewhere near Raffles City. Luckily, the evening was made beautiful by our venture to the top of Park Hyatt at Pudong side. The view was breathtaking, everything seemed so much smaller from up there.

Oh well, in summary, my trip to Shanghai was so-so......not a favourite city of mine. Even with the beautiful architecture, the Shanghainese were still unable to pull off the cosmopolitan living.
