Maiden Drive

Finally! After so many years, I get to drive to Orchard Road. Wheeeee......

IC was my first passenger on the roads of Orchard. Traffice was really heavy with frequent braking. But alas! It was still a good one. Just have to work on practising more with the multi-storey carparks in Orchard. Such tight lots!

Maybe

This seems like a very long month for me. Trying to figure out why is that so. My Australia tour took almost more than half of March away. There was my birthday, Cathay’s opening and company from Melbourne. At this stage, it seems that so much happened and I am still in March! Do I like this month so much that I just cannot seem to leave it? Or is it simply that I feel that time doesn’t seem to be moving when I am back in SG.

The weather is really killing me. Not so much of the heat actually, but the humidity. I realise that I truly need something to take my mind off the weather and the sudden departure of some friends for now. Yesterday seems so far away.

A huge influx of feelings and emotions conquers my life now. Maybe I just want to be alone. So many maybes. I agree that right now, I just cannot put myself down to do anything right or anything that can be remotely accurate.

For now, maybe I should just focus on happy thoughts and to recover from the horrible throat infection.

Just for laughs

Cousin: Hey! You know hor, I know the boss of Poh Heng. The factory in Ubi.

(Adrian listens intently)

Brother: Oh! So you get big discounts and all right?

Cousin: Yah! I get 50% off the retail price.

Brother: Wah! So good ah. Can intro me or not? Their Rings (Rims) are big and shiny.

Adrian: Poh Heng is a long standing jewellery store in SG lor. The quality of their rings are damn good hor. Hey! Why never intro me huh? I also want! (Diamonds are a bois best-friend)

Brother: We are talking about tyre rims! Not Rings lor.

*The above dialogue is true and should there be any similarities, it is definately not a coincidence.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Was kinda pai seh when I learnt that they were actually discussing about cars and not diamonds. Getting worried on how people are actually looking at me now. With a slant to think that I am shallow maybe? Hahaha. Oh well, I better start learning about rims and not rings if I want to get to drive the car more often. =P

Glam Stand

If last night was a dream, then it was a very sweet dream. After so many years, the old Cathay building finally reopened doors to the public. To mark the opening of The Cathay, the management decided to throw a spectacular party to commemorate this event. It seemed like only yesterday that I was climbing up the grand staircase of the old building before watching a movie. Not forgetting the iconic Orange Julius drink in one hand of course.

Taking every step with great consciousness is something that not one would do everyday. But that was how it felt as we strolled down the red carpet before being greeted by cameras. Not one but a few cameras. Observing the rule of first come first serve, we had to make sure that we were not captured on the picture of couples that were before us. The stroll was none as intimidating as the mass number of people that greeted us at the grand façade. Guests, ushers, batman, superman, cat woman. Aiyoh! It was simply massive! Men suspended in mid-air playing tunes to classical compositions, and smoke emitting from the main entrance. You would believe that the party is going to be held there if people were to tell you that.Once in the main building, you cannot help but be amazed at the transformation. It hardly felt like a building! It was an amusement park! Movie characters were running around the compound with waiters serving beverages to you. GK wasted no time at all to spot the bar. As we were walking towards the bar, we were waylaid by our past. We started getting excited and stopped in our paths to take a Polaroid with the familiar. Much credit must be given to IM for choosing the most appropriate wine for an event as such. The white wine brought a familiar taste to our group; we could not get our hands off the glass! It felt like I was drinking from the chalice that never runs dry. Every sip from the liquid, gives one more excitement as we wait in anticipation for the show to begin (Sounds like what an alcoholic would say).

For the initiation ceremony, a total of 11 guest of honour was chosen. They represented the Cathay organisation in almost every way. They were partners of Cathay and every one of them contributed to the company since the 1950s. The show began after the couplets were unveiled. Acrobatic dancers displaying elegance and dynamism in mid-air to the sound of classical, timeless pieces. Towards end of the show, pyrotechnics were used and confetti rained down at the centre of the building. Beyond possible description of how impressive the show was. Guests were led to the main theatres by drummers dressed smartly as soldiers in the ballet, Nutcracker.

The Grand Cathay lived up to her name. Plush seats, decadent curtains with ornate decorations. The seats were they way I had imagined all Cinema seats should be. COMFORTABLE! The movie that was screened represented The Cathay. It was a movie that was screened the same year as the old building, a symbolic representation. However, the movie was not able to keep me seated. My mind was screaming help. I knew that I had to leave and join the company that beckons.

The rest of the evening was history. History that accompanied the momentous opening of The Cathay. And history that is very much appreciated.

Special Thanks to:

1. IM for the invite.
2. D for coming over to say hi.
3. The company for the evening.
4. Mr. Brown for the wonderful Chenin Blanc.

If I should be so lucky!

All the drama at the airport.

1. Excess Baggage.
2. Expired Student VISA

The flight was a good one and for once, Qantas arrived on time. The feeling was overwhelming at the airport. All these Singaporeans getting a slice of DFS. Did not bother to squeeze with them. Gave DFS a miss. Back at home things were more chaotic, parents rushing me to get change and head out for some buffet dinner. Wah! So stressful! And I had to pack up all the things that I would be passing to Emeric. Did drinks with him at Leonidas. Interesting cafe. And I had my birthday pressie from him. Nice.

Immediately after that, I went to meet BL for drinks again at Cine. Had a long conversation on the differnt types of dance available. The night ended abit pass midnight. Was good company.

Woke up this morning to find my mum bidding goodbye. So it seems that parents decided to go Bintan for a short SPA trip. Oh well, do I get the car? Fat Chance!

Spent the whole morning unpacking. It was crazy.

Loved the pressie from MT, JW and BL. (SABA Tee) And of course EL gave me something that ecapsulates a pice of art. Thank you all for the well wishes. =)

Perth Day

Staring into the screen just makes me feels weird. Hopefully there will be no feeling of warm tears streaming down the cheeks of my face. Home seems so far away and that made me wonder if extending my stay in Perth was a wise choice. Received a greeting message from dad this morning asking for dinner with me tomorrow evening.

It may be just a birthday, but I wonder if it would have been better spending it in SG. Perth may be a quiet city but the people around me seems to be revolving around their own personal life. And I respect that as I know how hard it is to juggle between so many commitments with so little time. The morning of the birthday will be spent on packing and watching Kylie's concert. Thanks to AK, I finally have a copy of Show Girl. Hmmm....that will keep me gay at bay for now. Hahaha

Have a great day Adrian. You have worked hard the last year. =)

Just follow the stars

The drive reached terminal velocity after meandering down Wanneroo Road. Terminal Veocity relates back to the emotions packed in the car. The comfort level and memories both sweet and bitter flooded my head. Fresh in my mind is every single event that happened throughout the past 1 1/2 years. Leaving all these behind, I really cannot bear. But to move on I must. Hard it seems, but I know there will always be a time to leave some friends, but that doesn't mean that I have the option of forgetting them. They are still integral to my life and not one friend must go.

The friendships fostered in Perth means a great deal to me. These friends sticked through the thick and the thin at a time when all is lost. All the razzle and dazzle seems to be so far away. Keeping each other company and in check.

The stars may have been robbed off their lustre by the moon. But the moon knows that she cannot hold on much longer. She needs to retire for awhile, just to let the stars take their rightful position.

Twinkle stars, twinkle stars. No matter where you are.

Sydney Sider or Melbournian?

Been awhile since I last made an entry. This is largely due to the arrival of IC and TO. Sydney was a blast after IC arrived in Sydney, followed closely by TO. What made the last weekend in Sydney particularly memorable and worth every bit of the effort made to be there was the comapany and new found friends.

The Sydney Sider way of life is definately not something that I would want. But everything else aside, it makes perfect sense to party on in Sydney. It is no denying that Sydney is the city where things happen and they make it happen. Never have I been to a party as massive as the one I was at. A pity that the company decided to retire early, but I still insisted on mugging on. Giving myself every opportunity to soak up the atmosphere and maybe one day be organising an event that requires as much logistics. (We never know)

Will see what happens next year, should there be enough company and resources, a trip down to Sydney at this time of the year will definately come true. And certainly like to throw in some participation points.

Melbourne is always a favourite city for people. Favoured for the polite residents and seemingly livable lifestyle. The pace of life is much slower compared to that of Sydney. The availability of Arts and recreation is something that intrigues and beckons me to it. Livable? Well, check out TO's place and tell me what does livable means. Comapact in every sense yet exodes freedom all around it. Looking out of the balcony while I am typing this entry just makes this entry seems sweeter. The apartments all around it proves as a motivational and driving force to earn money that allows one to enter "high living". Oh does it? Hmmm.....

Anyway, lots more to do in Melbourne before I head back home to Perth. I really like the feeling of being in Perth. It seems like I am now this prodigal son that is lost and can only be found after I head back to Perth. I have shared some fond memories as well as heart wrenching ones in Perth and none of them can be replaced.

Can't wait to be back in Perth after this seemingly long and tiring trip. Back to familiar surroundings and walking around with much ease. And of course, it is time for me to claim my driver's license.

When the friendly meets the unfriendly

Salutatations from Sydney!

Currently I am putting up at my cousin's place in Kingsford. I realised that I actually do not have many friends in Sydney. And the only remotely possible resaon for me to be here is due to Mardi Gras and lust. Lust for the shimmering lights and passerbys.

Checked out a few museums while here. And that is about it. Oxford street is a must to visit, but not without company. Right now, just waiting for Ian Chan to arrive into Syndey at 1055hrs. The last few days amounts to walking and more walking alone aong george street and around circular quay.

Sydney is a really face paced city with noticeable changes within just a few months of absence. Out popped world square, a completely new buliding with heaps of shopping outlets. What mattered more to me was not the shops that was in it. But a huge "dragon" like installation. And then there were the lights. They were ever changing and gave the walk way fresh feel. Maybe City Link should try this out. That really spruced up the shopping pleasure.

Unfortunately, no shopping has been done so far. Putting all my hopes on Chapel Street and a maybe Paddington.

Oh Yah!

And I was lost on day one of my trip. Met this sweet looking Pan-Asian girl on the way to Chinatown. So it seems she was just as lost and heading towards Chinatown as well. Might as well, and so we tried to find Chinatown together. She is from Melbourne and here for a short break, accompanying his Greek parentage BF. We were basically bitching about Sydney. OMG! Yes! And what made the whole 1 hours so fun was the fact that we started talking about shopping. Was so cool. Her name is Wanalulu. Her parents are from Hawaii. She has never taken the Sydney train before and so I took her in the train.

Off to the shower, must make sure I arrive earlier than Mr. Chan.

More updates in Melbourne maybe.

P.S: More pics from graduation. Sorry for the raw pics, no time to edit.
