Forbidden City

After watching 2 runs of the Forbidden City, I almost decided to give the third run amiss. Thanks to AW, I managed to get a pair of tckets at a discounted price and thought to myself, why not? Especially when they were stall seats that allowed a relatively good view of the show.

The director Steven Dexter(director of previous runs) seems to have ran put of ideas to make the show more spectacular. Why can't SRT just kept the third run as it was from the last run? Isn't that what broadway or the west-end is doing? Keeping their musicals orignal and consistent.

Many glitches set in with the sound, and it affected ACT 1. However, it also displayed the powerful vocals that God has kindly bestowed Kit Chan. She was amazing when the mic when off, her melodic voice filled the theatre as if the mics were on. The rest of the cast were not fantastic bit Hoassan managed to keep the audience entertained and gave comic relief to the show. Casting was also not perfect this time round with the old empress being too fat for comfort, though her singing was good. A friend actually commented that the really Empress Dowager is not that fat, and I actually laughed at him for being mean, but after watching it for myself, I have to agree.

Anyways, it was a good to watch the musical again since 3 years ago.
